A woman, a lavish life she's escaping from, and a bond with Harry Houdini that blurs every line she knows.
Sable runs a successful publishing company, co-founded by her father. She enjoys a lavish lifestyle and travels the world frequently. Recently, however, she has found herself facing a personal dilemma. To escape her own reality, she often amuses herself by watching people walk past her window, imagining their lives.
At a company dinner party, she meets a captivating man named Erik Weisz — also known as Harry Houdini. They quickly form a close bond, characterized by a unique connection and a telepathic understanding that sometimes blurs the lines of their friendship.
As Sable's personal dilemma unfolds, it evolves into a gripping mystery filled with deceit, danger, and even murder.
The characters in this heartfelt novel are beautifully flawed and haunting; they will linger in your soul long after you've turned the last page.
Sable's Secret is my first novel, where I intertwine historical fiction, mystery, and romance, centered around the protagonist Sable, who owns a publishing house called Funk and Wagnalls. This fictional entity draws inspiration from the real Funk & Wagnalls publishing company, founded in 1876 by Isaac Kaufman Funk and Adam Willis Wagnalls.
During research at Wagnall's Memorial Library, I organically discovered that Isaac Kauffman Funk was my distant relative — my fifth cousin, five times removed — connected through my Swiss ancestry, despite variations in surname spelling caused by a misspelling in the courts at some point, which I had learned years ago.
This genealogical revelation deeply resonated with me, reinforcing my belief that writing and publishing are part of my heritage. I have written since a very young age, and I even learned that my writing is similar to Isaac's, as he was also a highly spiritual person with similar beliefs.
Within the narrative, meaningful coincidences and synchronicity between characters mirror my own life experiences, infusing the novel with a sense of magic. The story's emotional depth and historical ties enrich its appeal, blending personal discovery with literary craft.
Sable's Secret is available in select bookstores, and online at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
